ARTISTS` COLOUR PIGMENTS - 35 Series : Introduction


Johnson Matthey has a worldwide reputation for the manufacture and marketing of a unique palette of high quality inorganic Artist Colour pigments. This complete palette is based on cadmium, cobalt and iron compounds, the traditional colouring materials used by fine artists for hundreds of years.

Iron Oxide has been used as an Artists Colour dating back to 1600 B.C. These colours, umbers and sienna`s etc, are naturally occuring products and as such are variable in shade and performance. Over the last 100 years, the demand has been towards a more consistent quality of material, so natural grades are now colour matched using synthetic iron oxides.

As natural resources diminish, and the demands of the artist increase, more synthetic iron oxide is being used in Artist colours formulations.

Trans-Oxide pigments offer the Artist good consistent colour control and high transparency.
